New Sporting area in Levin - Donnelly Park. Many of you will not know of this park which is situated south-east of the lake on Adkin Avenue. No longer is Saturday Netball competition held on the college courts. Donnelly Park is growing into a major sports complex in the town with soccer, hockey, netball, softball all being played here.

Levin appeared on the National News as a result of a BIG local effort to construct an artificial hockey ground at the park. Sponsorship was obtained from all around the town and the ground was prepared and the surface laid. A pavilion was needed and again the town rallied behind the idea and as a result, a two storey building was erected. Material and time were donated and many organisation got in behind the project and over the one weekend, the building was started and completed. The Building is called the Bill Crighton Pavilion and the hockey ground is called “The Halliwell Turf” after a past student who played a major role in getting the project completed.

Recently an International Hockey match was played between the New Zealand and India’s Women’s Hockey teams and it was great to see Michelle Turner, a past student of the college, playing in the NZ side.
